Sabres Acquire Rivet

It looks as though the move to pick up Rob Blake had severely hurt the Sharks' chances of making it underneath the salary cap. So, to make some room, the team dealt defenseman Craig Rivet to the Sabres for a couple of second round picks, one next summer and then the other in 2010.

Rivet's contract is worth $10.5 million over the next three years, has now moved from one coast to another and he now becomes the high-scoring defenseman on the Sabres. The Sabres get what they need in a new number one defenseman and the Sharks end up getting what they need, more draft picks to increase the stocks in the future.
