Theodore Becomes a Capital

Finally, one of the top 10 unrestricted free agents is on the move. The Washington Capitals announced that they signed goaltender Jose Theodore to a new 2-year deal, as it looks like they won't be able to come to terms with Cristobel Huet.

Theodore, 31, was let go as the number one goalie for the Avalanche after coming off a rebound season, where he registered 28 wins and 3 shutouts for 64 pool points. That brought him back into the top 100 in pool scoring and now will have a chance to get a little bit higher playing behind some of the league's elite youth.

He is scheduled to be a $4.5 million salary cap hit in both of his years, which now brings the Washington totals up to 18 players @ $48.7 million.

There really is no guarantee that Theodore is going to bring a lot of success to the Capitals, but the team in front of him is definitely going to score. For Theodore to be successful, he has to make all the easy stops and that way, he'll become a prime pick in next year's hockey pools. It will be an exciting time for him and a stellar season could bring much success to the US capital.
