After taking an awkward spill into the boards on Tuesday night against the Sabres, Canadiens winger Mike Cammalleri is expected to miss the next couple weeks with a shoulder injury, likely in the separation variety. Cammalleri was shoved from behind, causing him to lose his balance and fall in an awkward position into the boards. He had left the game and didn't return. The initial word is two weeks out of the line-up, but that didn't sound too certain at the time of the announcement.
Cammalleri has been having a fairly disappointing year on the scoresheet, having only 31 points (13 goals and 18 assists) in 44 games for the Canadiens. That is only good enough to have him ranked 98th in pool rankings, which has the possibility of dropping fairly quickly through the tight competition in that scoring range.
Cammalleri has not enjoyed much success since moving to Montreal from Calgary in the Summer of 2009, having missed extended periods of time and scoring at around 0.7 points-per game, down from his even point-per-game pace he enjoyed in his only season with the Flames.
In the draft, Wes M. took Cammalleri 81st overall in the 5th round, so his draft position wasn't too far off his overall standing in the league and possibly would have seen a slight rise in the standings as the season progressed, but this speed bump will hurt his overall ranking.
Wes currently sits in 17th place, 9 points out of 16th and 18 points up on 18th, so he should be fairly comfortable in that spot for a little while yet. Cammalleri will join Ryan Callahan, as injured players on Wes' team, but neither should be out for too much longer.
