Sheet Player News (Jan 4)

The Chicago Blackhawks are slowly getting themselves back to being healthy again at the start of the 2011 calendar year, which means they will have more than enough bodies to make the line-up on a regular basis, which then means healthy scratches.  Box 14 defenseman Nick Boynton was one of those scratches on Monday night, as the Hawks took on the Kings.  I get the feeling that this was more of a planned move than anything else and he'll likely return to the line-up in the next game or two.

Box 31 goaltender Michael Leighton was put on waivers on Monday afternoon by the Flyers, likely in order to clear him off the current roster, be it by a demotion down to the AHL or sacrificing his name to another team.  Leighton helped back stop the Flyers to the Stanley Cup Finals in the Spring, but injury problems kept him from getting the chance to keep the number one job in Philadelphia, which has since been taken over by both Brian Boucher and Sergei Bobrovsky.  The Flyers did explore the trade route for Leighton, but no partners were found for that kind of transaction.  That may work in Philadelphia's favour for keeping the veteran goalie in the system, but it's hard to say.
