As much as the Boston Bruins wanted to say that Marc Savard did not exhibit any concussion symptoms after he was hit up high by Matt Hunwick on Saturday night, but some further tests on Monday have found some symptoms and he was diagnosed with a "moderate" concussion. Of course, with Savard having suffered so many concussions in the past, there will not be any timeline for his return, if any, this season. We will consider him out indefinitely for now.
I wouldn't be surprised if he was shut down for the year in the next few weeks, but that is my own speculation at this point.
Even before his new concussion problems that have now arisen, the old ones were still a major factor in Savard's season, limiting him to only 25 games with the Bruins, scoring 4 goals and 6 assists. This will likely leave him in the worst annual total for points since his rookie season with the New York Rangers. Going into Monday night's action, Savard was ranked 442nd in pool scoring, well down from his previous rankings in the last 10 years.
Fortunately for the Bruins, they haven't had to rely on Savard and his scoring this season, finding new ways to put the puck in the net and find some success in the schedule and the standings. Being without him now shouldn't come as a terrible shock to their system.
With the second waiver draft only a week away, Larry D. will not have to suffer too long with Savard out of the Bruins line-up, because he will be able to drop him right away. Larry had picked Savard in the original draft, thinking that his post-concussion symptoms would fade away in good time for the start of the season, they didn't. When Savard did end up coming back, it was just before the first waiver draft, so there was no sense in dropping him then. Now, with these new symptoms, I would have to believe that Savard will be the first off the ship, hoping to try and improve his scoring for the late stretch.
