Sheet Player News (Jan 25)

The transition between playing defense in the East and the West has seemingly been a struggle for a number of third-pairing defensemen, which is the sort of situation that Matt Hunwick is finding himself in. His adjustment to the Avalanche game has been rocky, at best, and on Monday night, he found himself in the press box for a game. The Avs did beat St. Louis, 4-3, so there could be enough reason to have him sit another game before the All-Star break.

After catching an errant high stick from the Oilers' Tom Gilbert the night before, Predators forward J-P Dumont was out of the line-up against the Flames on Monday night.  The stick caught Dumont on the back of the neck and that's about the only thing most articles I've seen have to go on, as to why he wasn't able to go last night.  After the stick caught Dumont, he was down n the ice for a little while, but left th playing surface on his own steam.  For now, we'll consider him out day-to-day with an upper-body injury.

Box 19 forward Nikolai Kulemin bit off a bit more than he could chew at the end of the 1st period against the Hurricanes, as the Maple Leafs scoring winger went after tough guy defenseman Tim Gleason at the horn.  Kulemin started throwing some wild punches at Gleason with his gloves still on and Gleason ended up taking matters into his own hands, dropping his gloves and popping Kulemin right on the beak.  Kulemin left the ice after grabbing a towel to attend to his face and the initial belief is that he suffered a broken nose on the punch.  There has been no further word to how long Kulemin may be out for.
