Draft Player Scratches (Jan 18)

The Thrashers coaching staff have not been terribly pleased with the overall effort levels of their team of late and they have decided to name names again, coming up with Zach Bogosian early on, who was a healthy scratch for the comeback shootout win against the Panthers on Monday night. Bogosian has had 1 assist and a -3 rating in his last five games, which has really drawn the ire of the coaches and they hope a message has been sent.

Bogosian has been a bit of a disappointment for Dale C. in the draft this season, but a number of players are also guilty of that these days. Dale did have a good start to the week without his young defender, picking up 6 points on opening night of Week Sixteen, but he's got to be hoping Bogosian returns to the line-up right away.

The Islanders are walking on the side of caution with their number one goalie, Rick DiPietro, who was made into a healthy scratch for the game against the Devils on Monday afternoon. DiPietro was said to be healthy by the Islanders coaching staff, but they didn't like the time between games, so they gave him the day off, dressing Kevin Poulin and Nathan Lawson instead.

It's hard to say whether or not DiPietro would have made a 5-2 loss into a better game on Monday afternoon, but all Larry D. would be asking is that he try.  Larry can't get any points from DiPietro if he's up in the press box watching.  Larry currently sits 31 points out of the money in 10th spot.
