The Dallas Stars were without their ironman for the first time in a number of years, as Loui Eriksson reportedly picked up a serious enough case of the flu to not dress for his team on Friday night, ending an ironman streak of 310 games, which started in 2007. I don't think we'll see him out of the line-up for too long, since the flu doesn't really take guys out for too long.
Eriksson has been solid for the Stars in the 2011 season, appearing in 47 games for Dallas, scoring 17 goals and 32 assists, scoring at over a point-per-game, ranking him 14th in pool scoring this season with his 49 points. The connection between Brad Richards, Mike Ribeiro and Eriksson has been fantastic for Dallas, giving them plenty of offense to counterbalance their softer defensive play this year.
A night off from the action for Eriksson did seem to hurt his club, losing to the Flames, 7-4, in more of an offensive display. Eriksson does bring a good two-way element to his game and the Stars top line likely could have used that style of play, giving up a few goals on their watch.
It was a night off for Eriksson, which likely cost Larry at least a point in the game or possibly upwards of three, depending on who he was lining up with on the night. Larry finished the night in 10th spot, only 3 points back of 9th, 6 points ahead of 12th, so there could still be some movement on Saturday night, before it is all said and done.
The Stars don't go again until Monday, so I would expect Eriksson to return for Larry then.
