Frolov's Season is Over

It hasn't been the best of seasons for Alex Frolov.  Since signing with the New York Rangers as a well-touted free agent, he hasn't quite lived up to expectations and now a major knee injury has ended his season prematurely.  Frolov suffered a torn ACL and sprained MCL in Saturday's game in St. Louis when Brad Winchester fell over his leg.  Frolov will have to undergo surgery for his knee and his rehab will likely be in the six month range.

Frolov finishes his 2011 campaign with only 7 goals and 9 assists in 43 games with the Rangers, which unofficially finishes him in 274th in league scoring by the time Sunday's action had concluded.  Frolov finished the 2010 season in 119th spot with 51 points in 81 games with the Kings.

It's fair to say that his signing was a bust in 2011, but at least he won't count against the salary cap for the remainder of the season, opening up a bit more space, if the Rangers decide they are buyers at the deadline.

ImplicationsIn the draft, this comes as a pretty big blow to Chris M., who finds himself knee deep in the money race, finishing Week Fourteen on a bit of a down note, dropping down to 3rd place in the standings.  He is only 2 points back of the lead, but does not have the first tie-break against either Kristy and Don or Allan S.  The injury may not be the worst thing for Chris today, as Frolov wasn't giving much production to begin with, but when you're at the top, everything helps.
