The Washington Capitals announced at practice on Saturday morning that they will be without forward Eric Fehr for 3-to-4 weeks, after colliding with teammate David Steckel in Friday night's game against the Canucks. Fehr suffered an upper-body injury on the play, left the game and didn't return. The Capitals are another one of those well-guarded teams about their injuries, not counting the HBO special this season, so an upper-body injury could mean just about anything.
Fehr has been having somewhat of a sub-par season with the Capitals in 2011, scoring 8 goals and adding 9 assists in 41 games, currently down in the rankings from his finishing position in the 2010 season. Fehr has hovered around the half a point-per-game range in his career and he is slightly below that this season. Fehr has spent some time with the team's top line pairing of Alex Ovechkin and Nicklas Backstrom, but really hasn't seen any consistent numbers, which leads to less-than-consistent time.
This bit of injury news may come as a slight concern to Leon G. in the draft, who currently sits in 8th spot going into Saturday's action. Leon is 10 points out of 7th and 29 points out of 4th, so there was some substantial ground to make up, if he was going to have a second consecutive successful season in the draft. Fehr was his 13th round pick this year, 249th overall, and his last forward, so expectations were not incredibly high, but was likely thought he could be one hell of a bargain.
