The New York Rangers received some more bad news on Wednesday, as they will now be without their top skater for the next 3-to-4 weeks, as Brandon Dubinsky has been diagnosed with a stress fracture in his left leg. There wasn't a lot of detail as to when Dubinsky suffered the injury, but it really doesn't matter too much at the end of the day, because he'll still be out for a number of weeks.
Dubinsky is 2nd on the Rangers in pool scoring this season, with 17 goals and 21 points in 47 games, trailing only Henrik Lundqvist in that category this season. Dubinsky went into Wednesday night's action in 52nd in pool scoring with his good numbers and he'll definitely be missed for the next month, as he gets better.
If Dubinsky indeed misses the next four weeks, his estimated date back would be February 17th, at home to the Kings, which could work out to be about 11 games. If he was to miss 10 or more games, the Rangers would have an opportunity to open up a little bit more cap space for a better acquisition, which they may need going down the stretch.
In the draft, Dubinsky belongs to Jani K., who had also recently seen one of his defenders end up in his team's doghouse, so he's now got a couple of players who won't immediately be accumulating points. Jani goes into Wednesday night's action in 14th spot, only 3 points out of 13th spot and 49 points out of 4th place.
