2nd Round Pick |
If you were wondering what the Bruins were going to do after the Derek Morris deal, wonder no more. The Bruins acquired veteran defenseman, Dennis Seidenberg, from the Panthers for a package that includes Byron Bitz and a 2nd round pick.
The Bruins pick up a good mobile defenseman who has some puck-moving upside, while the Panthers get some re-tooling done, adding some grit and a good draft pick into their fold.
Well, there is some of that room that Morris left behind, taken up by Seidenberg in this deal. Seidenberg is a little more expensive than Hamhuis, but it could very well be that Hamhuis isn't moving or the Bruins were not in the negotiations with their package at all.
For the Panthers, this is one of those dumps we were looking forward to for the team to rebuild and retool. Good dump, as Bitz is the only real roster player coming back at the moment, counting against the cap.
I believe that Seidenberg is an upgrade, when compared to Derek Morris, so I think the Bruins did really well to restructure their own cap space and blueline at the same time. I also expect Seidenberg to be a little more effective in Boston, which should make him a better fantasy player, which only comes into play in the Sheet pool this season, which is why there is no implications box.
