The Columbus Blue Jackets are inching closer and closer to packing it in for the remainder of the season, much to the chagrin of those that support them and the poolies that need them, but some new injuries are really starting to catch-up with the team. The Jackets are all but mathematically eliminated from the playoff race, already sitting 13 points out of 8th, it's nearly impossible to make it now.
Kristian Huselius missed Monday's game with a suspected hand injury and Rick Nash (pictured) left the game against the Kings in the second period with a lower-body injury, which has been rumoured to have been plaguing the superstar forward for the last few games. Both players are considered to be day-to-day for the time being, but the team is not expecting to have Nash in the line-up on Tuesday against the Ducks and might push Huselius to come back sooner than expected, if that's truly the case. Everything does sound tight to the vest from the Blue Jackets camp, despite already being knocked out of the playoff conversation.
Mathieu Garon will reportedly get the start for the Jackets against the Ducks, after coming in relief of Steve Mason against the Kings on Monday night.
Between Nash and Huselius, we have two more players that are in the money conversation at the moment. Nash belongs to the 1st place team, Leon, and Leon has suffered some injuries of late, which may make his lead somewhat vulnerable to teams coming up from behind. Huselius, on the other hand, belongs to Dale B., who will enter Tuesday's action in 5th place, 16 points out of the money, but has been dropping off the race a little bit of late. If Huselius does return to the line-up, Dale should be in okay shape.
