The Minnesota Wild do not expect to have Mikko Koivu in the line-up for the next couple games, including Friday's game against the Red Wings after missing Thursday's game against the Flyers. Koivu suffered an arm injury earlier in the week against the Sharks, managed to finish the game after getting injured in the 2nd period, but has been told to sit out. I haven't seen confimation that he will be back for the team's game on Monday against the Kings at home, but I would imagine so after getting a couple extra days off in between.
Koivu has played in 73 games for the Wild this season and he's enjoying some good successes this year. He's already scored 20 goals and has added 46 assists this season, so he's hovering close to the point-per-game mark, but is just shy of it. He'll need a good boost upon his return to hit that mark, but it does look a little too far away for this season. Actually, upon further review, Koivu's 66 points is good enough to be ranked 37th in pool scoring at this point in the season, so we can consider this a pretty good year.
Saying that, Koivu has been one of the few bright spots in the season for John P. in the Draft this year. John sits in last in the standings going into Friday's action, so there isn't much fuss around the money positions here, but at least John got himself a bit of a bargain in Koivu this year. He picked him in the 5th round, 85th overall. That's a mighty fine pick by John.
Koivu was not taken in the Sheet pool and the Wild are nowhere near the playoffs, so that's about it here.
