2nd Round Draft Pick |
The Capitals were out to solidify their chances for playoff success and the addition of Eric Belanger to the mix was a good move. Belanger is a good depth forward who does it all, seemingly without asking. He's a defensively responsible forward that has a good scoring touch, which was a fit for a lot of teams, but the Capitals were there to snap him up. The going rate of a 2nd round pick was pretty good for both sides,
Belanger's cap hit is quite minimal for what he brings to the team and since he's a rental, there is no long-term concern for the Capitals. Belanger will fit in nicely with the salary cap numbers that the team has in place already and they weren't done with this deal.
Good player for a reasonable price... good deal. The Minnesota Wild have seemingly packed it in a bit with this deal, while the Capitals have made themselves better.
