The Hurricanes are getting close to being eliminated from playoff contention officially, but I think we all know 9 points out with only 9 games to go is a little far-fetched, especially now that they have shut down pesky scoring-forward, Tuomo Ruutu, for the remainder of the regular season and elected to give him shoulder surgery this week. Ruutu's season is now officially done with just over two week to go in the season.
Ruutu has not had the best of seasons in 2010, playing in only 54 games for the Hurricanes due to injuries. In those games, he has scored 14 goals and 21 assists, giving him a scoring pace of just over half a point per game. He did have some pretty good stretches of scoring this season, but it really didn't translate to a great year overall.
Ruutu was a pick of Wes' this season and he is definitely in the money conversation as we head down the stretch run. The elimination of Ruutu's remaining schedule does hurt him a little, especially as it is a forward that is being taken out of the line-up, while being 9 points back.
Ruutu is on the Regular Season Sheet, but was in the higher end boxes in the Eastern Conference, so he was passed over pretty quickly this season, with no reason to pick him up during the year.
If the Hurricanes were going to make the playoffs, he may have been a good player to consider, barring the injury, but since neither is going to happen, there isn't much thought going into Ruutu's place on the Playoff Pool Sheet.
