Bruins Update

Things are not rosy at all with the team from Beantown. The Bruins are in Toronto tonight for one of the early games on the schedule and it really looks like they will be under-manned for the game due to injury. The Bruins are holding onto a 2-point gap from 8th to 9th in the Eastern Conference playoff race, with two games in hand, but they need to do something with those games in hand to make it work in their favour.

By now, you should have seen the hit that Marc Savard received from Matt Cooke and realized how devastating it was right from the start. Well, Savard was cleared to fly home on Monday afternoon after being diagnosed with a grade 2 concussion, which will keep him out of the line-up indefinitely and likely for the remainder of the regular season, as I initially thought in my first post. I'm not expecting him back at all this year, but I suppose there is still hope for the playoffs, but the Bruins will have to make the Spring dance without Savard.

It has also come down the pipe on Tuesday morning that the Bruins are expecting to be without Zdeno Chara for their game against the Maple Leafs on Tuesday night. Chara is reportedly suffering from a lower-body injury and he'll be rested for this game. The call right now is that Chara is day-to-day and no more details are coming out right now. There might be some more clarification closer to game time, but we're not expecting to see him play tonight.

Also, there's news that Tuukka Rask will be back in the line-up tonight for the Bruins, but he'll be backing up Tim Thomas, who gets the start against the Leafs.

ImplicationsWell, both players who are out tonight for the Bruins belong to the 13th place team in the Draft, Stacey C.'s, while he tries to hang onto his position, but he now has lost at least one key scorer for the remainder of the year, so his overall scoring will take a big hit and he risks being dropped down into the absolute basement with John P. and Trevor B.. The loss of Savard really hurts Stacey, as he already has the worst group of forwards in the pool this season, scoring only 273 points for him, while the top spot team going into Tuesday's action has 392.
