Another team making their first appearance on the free agent frenzy is the Buffalo Sabres. They have announced that they have signed goaltender Patrick Lalime to a 2-year deal, worth $4 million. Lalime will likely back-up Ryan Miller for the next couple seasons for the Sabres.Lalime had a productive season as the back-up in Chicago, winning 16 games and earning 34 pool points. Those totals are likely to go down, as he'll be playing behind a goalie that plays a lot of games. Don't count on Lalime to pick up the slack in the goaltending department for your pool team, but he could earn you some points behind a young Sabres team that will have to rest their number one every once and a while.

The Sabres came into July without having to do a whole lot of work to the team. Adding Lalime brings their signed total to 16 players at a cap hit of $42.6 million. The Sabres want to remain in the competition for some of the key free agents, but will likely have a hard time convincing some to come to this young team.
