Finger, 28, is considered to be more of a defensive specialist, but does get some points here and there. Last season, he registered 19 points (8G, 11A) in 72 games with the Avalanche and could be considered a late round pick, if you need some defensemen. Unfortunately, the Leafs haven't learned the idea of value for money, as 19 points for $3.5 million doesn't really add up. Finger is now earning close to what Robyn Regehr is making in Calgary.
Finger's presence could push out either Stralman or Colaiacovo from the opening night line-up, pending more deals.
Leafs now have 17 players under contract at a cost of $40.9 million, before buy-outs and after Curtis Joseph earning $700,000 for his contract.
