Blue Jackets Add Commodore

The Columbus Blue Jackets decided to throw an excess amount of cash at journeyman defenseman Mike Commodore. He signed a 5-year deal worth $18.75 million, which evens out to $3.75 million over those seasons.

Commodore finished the year with 14 points (3G, 11A) in 67 games and will now have to carry the defensive load in Columbus, especially with the big deal he's signed. Other defensemen with his offensive output are scheduled to make over a million less than Commodore, but the Blue Jackets must have seen something in Commodore to offer him the big deal.

With the addition of Raffi Torres and Mike Commodore, the deletion of Gilbert Brule, the Blue Jackets now have 15 players signed on for $28.8 million. The argument can be made that Commodore is overpaid for the reason that the Blue Jackets will have trouble making the floor number for the salary cap constraints.
