The first semi-big move of the free agent frenzy saw forward Radim Vrbata move to (who else, but) the Tampa Bay Lighting, signing a deal for 3 years at a cap hit of $3 million per season.The rebuilding Lightning add a forward that had scored 27 goals last season with the Phoenix Coyotes and had established himself as a key forward in Phoenix and in the Sherpa's draft. Vrbata will be added to a growing list of players that have joined the Lightning, in order to beef up the team and make a renewed run for the playoffs after finishing dead last in the league.
| Forwards | Defense | Goaltenders |
| Vincent Lecavalier | Paul Ranger | Mike Smith |
| Martin St. Louis | Filip Kuba | Karri Ramo |
| Vaclav Prospal | Dan Boyle | |
| Radim Vrbata | Shane O'Brien | |
| Ryan Malone | Brad Lukowich | |
| Jeff Halpern | Alexandre Picard | |
| Jussi Jokinen | Mike Lundin | |
| Michel Ouellet | ||
| Gary Roberts | ||
| Jason Ward | ||
| Nick Tarnasky |
Vrbata's signing now has the Lightning up to 20 players @ $44.5 million, which is still very frugal.
