Well, the Minnesota Wild are not going to let the other teams in their division get away with getting better all of a sudden. They struck a deal with the Nashville Predators that sees defenseman Marek Zidlicky join the squad for a prospect and a second round pick.
Zidlicky finished the season with 43 points (5G, 38A) in 79 games with the Predators and has been an All-Star in previous seasons. He immediately adds some good power play depth to the team and will likely join Brent Burns in taking care of business in that department.
To Minnesota | Age | Games | Points | Contract on July 1st |
Marek Zidlicky, D | 31 | 79 | 43 | 2 years, $3.35 million |

Ryan Jones, F | 24 | 0 | 0 | N/A |
2009 Second Round Pick |
The Nashville Predators were not struggling to keep within the salary cap constraints, but unless the team has got bigger plans for their defense corps with signings or promotions, this deal doesn't seem to make too much sense. As for the Minnesota Wild, they probably come away from this deal feeling like they fleeced the Preds and now have a solid defense pairing to take on just about any team.
